Flotilla Commander Howard Phillips and Vice Flotilla Commander Jerry Shacklett are both pleased that you've stopped by for a visit. Please take a look around and discover the services that the Flotilla provides to the community. | Established in 1954, Flotilla 2-7 is one of the longest continually functioning Flotillas in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. The Flotilla boasts an extremely diverse membership including; a Medical Doctor; a School Teacher; some Attorneys; several Engineers, including Civil, Mechanical, Electronics and Nuclear Engineers; a Professional Photographer; a Geophysicist; Retired individuals; individuals still working for a living; Business Owners; Grocery Clerk; a Licensed Sea Captain; Boat Owners; Scuba Divers; Retired and former Military from all Branches of Service (both Officer and Enlisted); Financial Planners; Insurance Experts; an Amateur Radio (HAM) Instructor; Emergency Medical Technician; a Retired Fire Captain; Mechanics including Auto, Truck and Aircraft; a Graphic Artist; Retired Law Enforcement Officers; a General Contractor and the list goes on. So if you're looking for an opportunity to serve your country in the Auxiliary, no matter your background, you'll be certain to find a friendly home within Flotilla 2-7 (see Join the Auxiliary). | Additionally, Flotilla 2-7 excels in many mission fields. Some of which are Public Education, Operations, Public Affairs, Vessel Inspections, Communications and Program Visitation. is the current and five-time holder of the Distinct 11SR,
"Pickering Award", and as such holds the
title of District "Flotilla of the Year".
Additionally, the Flotilla and it's members are the perennial recipients of numerous performance Awards from all levels of the Coast Guard, the Coast Guard Auxiliary and other agencies and/or organizations. | | Monthly Membership Meetings are held on various dates (see the Flotilla Calendar) at the Newport Beach Yacht Club at the corner of Bayside and Jamboree in Newport Beach (just adjacent to the bridge to Balboa Island). It is the long held tradition of Flotilla 2-7 to hold
at least four Social Events during each calendar year. Two of which are "Cruises", one in the Summer and one in the Fall, an Awards Dinner in conjunction with a Change-of-Watch Ceremony and a Holiday Brunch.
Others may be added to enhance the social spirit of the
Flotilla. All of these events are well attended and greatly enjoyed.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the civilian, uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard, as well as the lead volunteer force in the Department of Homeland Security. Founded in 1939 by an Act of Congress as the US Coast Guard Reserves and re-designated the Coast Guard Auxiliary in 1941, the 30,000 volunteer members (men and women) donate thousands of hours in support of the Coast Guard and Maritime Domain Awareness missions, such as Search & Rescue, Public Education, Vessel Inspections and Marine Environmental Protection. |
